Annual Band Trips. |
Each year, as a means to promote the Austintown Fitch Band throughout our country, and to reward the hard work and dedication of our band members, the Band Directors assisted by the ABP plan a “band trip” near the end of the school year. The goal of the trip is to provide an educational and performance-based experience to students.

Option of signing up for “direct deposit” payments: Parents may sign up for a monthly payment to be directly withdrawn from their checking, savings or credit card accounts.
Option of trip cancellation insurance: Bob Rogers Travel, the provider of the past four band trips, also has an option of a third party trip cancellation insurance. For a modest fee ($20-$45) depending on the total cost of the trip, parents may pay an optional trip cancellation insurance. If the event arises that a student cannot attend the trip, they will have their payments returned and it will not affect the price of anyone else’s trip.

Band Trips FAQ
How many days of school will a Fitch Band member miss to participate in the annual trip?
Normally, Band Trips are scheduled to insure that per Austintown Board of Education guidelines students do not miss more than 2 “excused” days of school. Trips are typically scheduled for Thursday through Sunday, unless there are holidays or teacher training days that may permit a longer, permissible trip.
What transportation is provided for Fitch Band Trips?
Typically all trips utilize charter busses for transportation. Only reliable insured companies with new or nearly new equipment are considered to drive our students. Most trips are coordinated by professional travel companies who have a primary business of exclusively planning student and musical performance tours. These companies are able to provide the most cost effective and safe and enjoyable trip available. Currently, the Fitch Band uses Bob Rogers Travel.
What meals are provided during Fitch Band Trips?
Mr. O’Connor has always requested that ALL meals are provided in the pre-paid trip costs to avoid parents having to send additional “food” money with their students. It also avoids a student who is “on their own” for the first time from buying that “perfect souvenir” and forgetting to save money for dinner. If a meal is not a planned group meal, either food vouchers or cash will be distributed to the band members prior to that meal.
What lodging is provided during Fitch Band Trips?
Housing during a trip will be at an approved hotel. Security and safety are the number one rule. In addition to school board approved band parent chaperones (who have also obtained an FBI and BCI background check), the ABP Club, Inc. pays for a security company to send security officers to patrol the hotel hallways each night. Students are given the opportunity to select their roommates for each trip. Most trips are planned with 4 students per room. Students who do not sign up for a room are assigned roommates by the band director.
